Services - Mouthguards
Every athlete – from professional to amateur - should protect themselves against dental incidents and wear a mouthguard while playing contact sports.
Below are a few FAQs regarding mouthguards. If you don’t find the answer to your question below, be sure to contact us directly.
- What is a mouthguard?
A mouthguard is an appliance worn in the mouth that helps prevent injuries to the teeth, lips, cheeks, tongue and jaw.
- How do I choose a mouthguard?
There are three types of mouthguards to choose from:
- Stock or ready-made: the least expensive and not surprisingly, the least satisfactory. Although they come in different shapes and sizes, little can be done to adjust stock mouthguards.
- Formed/self-adapted: still relatively inexpensive and just as readily available. They are molded to fit each individual mouth by boiling the mouthpiece in water and then biting into the warm plastic. They can be refitted if not properly made on the first try.
- Custom-made: the most highly recommended. They are made at the dental office where each one individually designed and constructed.
